Never Bury These Items
If your project obscures any of the following, redesign the footprint or install a rated access hatch:
- Water Meter: Must remain visible for city readings and emergency shutoffs.
- Sewer Cleanouts: Essential for clearing main line blockages.
- Septic Lids: Required for mandatory pumping and inspection.
- HVAC Condensers: Require strict airspace clearances for airflow and maintenance.
- Dryer Vents: Must be cleanable to prevent fire hazards.
- Crawlspace Doors: Need clearance for a person to physically enter the foundation.
- Gas Shutoff Valves: Emergency access is legally mandated.
