The most unforgiving surface. Verify what is underneath before the pour begins.
A concrete truck is scheduled to pour a new driveway extension, patio, shed pad, or walkway.
Sewer cleanouts, private water lines, gas lines, and drain fields.
Consult municipal sewer records or hire a plumber to run a camera down the line to trace its exact path under the proposed slab.
Concrete is irreversible. Even if the surface looks clear, a main line running directly under it will be inaccessible.
If a pipe bursts or the sewer line collapses under a concrete slab, it requires jackhammering the concrete, digging the trench, fixing the pipe, and repouring. This turns a $500 plumbing fix into a $5,000 nightmare.
If any major utility or sewer line intersects the pour area, consult a professional to see if the line should be relocated or if an access hatch can be built into the concrete.
